About Me
Guus Vandeweerd
Guus Vandeweerd is a designer and researcher based in Brussels, currently pursuing a PhD in Arts and Humanities. His work examines how digital tools translate and restructure material, embodied, and relational phenomena, with a current focus on non-human avatars and ecological environments in digital space.
He holds two master’s degrees: Graphic Design from PXL-MAD (BE) and Research in Design from BAU College of Arts & Design (Barcelona). His practice has developed from virtual identity and avatar studies toward broader questions of digital translation, computational perception, and epistemology.
He has published in journals such as Collateral and the International Journal of Performance Arts and Digital Media, and presented at iMAL (Brussels), London College of Fashion, and FRAME. Recent projects include What if I Was a Stone (2024), a speculative avatar performance, and Can You Be My… (2022), an experimental VR project on identity and embodiment.
